Kaua’i native Malia Manuel began tandem surfing at the age of 3 years old, eventually getting her own board and surfing alongside both parents who are also passionate surfers. At age 14, Manuel became the youngest ever female or male to win the US Open of surfing. A few years later she qualified for the elite World Championship Tour and has been ranked in the top 10 best female surfers in the world for almost a decade.

A Kaua’i girl at heart, Manuel loves nature and the ocean and is genuinely grateful for all the experiences and places surfing has brought her. The simplicity of home in Hawaii is where she returns to rejuvenate in-between competing almost 10 months out of the year.

Malia Manuel

She relates surfing to yoga often, surrendering to the idea that it may never be a mastered sport— that is her motivation. “There’s always something to better yourself at, and everyday is different. Staying present is key.” Her gratitude for all the experiences, conversations, and life challenges is unparalleled; and keeping her journey healthy and inspiring is a top priority.
